SOHO THEATRE

I co-produced The Comedy Project, which had regular seasons at Soho Theatre for 20 years until lockdown. Work of mine there includes:

BARNSTORMERS: (picked up by Talkback).

JUDGMENT DAY: the first episode of a radio comedy drama (picked up by Talkback).

SYMPATHY PAINS: (see separate listing below).

CONCENTRIC ORBITS: a radio play about the first manned mission to Mars. This was showcased - with a lovely review in the i paper - at INK Festival 2023 in Suffolk.

DRASTIC PLASTIC: which went on to be developed by Sally Avens at BBC Radio 4.

RADIO 24: (co-written with David Upsher) 24 hours of talk radio in 24 minutes

DAMAGED GOODS

I appeared with Richard Heap in my new play DAMAGED GOODS at King’s Head Theatre (2018) & Leicester Square Theatre (2017).

“Wonderfully funny and deeply touching; beautifully written and performed.” CHRISTOPHER LOGAN.

“Terrific. Subtle, funny, moving and truthful” MARIA FRIEDMAN

THEATRE503

My short play, WE OPEN ON THURSDAY, was shown at Theatre503 in December 2015. It’s the fourth short play I’ve had chosen as part of the Rapid Write Response scheme.

In July 2015, I co-produced a run of THREE WRITERS WALK INTO A FOREST... six short fairytale-inspired plays written by Pippa Evans, Ian Dagger and me, in which I also performed.

“Over the past five years, I have seen Rosalind Adler perform both straight drama and comedy. Over that time, I feel that her work has developed greatly, and she specifically exhibits a clear talent for comic writing and performance that I have seen captivate audiences on many occasions.” STEVE HARPER, Literary Manager, Theatre503.

PRINCE OF HEARTS

My full length play, PRINCE OF HEARTS (“A terrific read” - DAVID GILMORE), set in the near future, about an introspective Prince of Wales whose wife is being chosen for him via reality TV, was showcased at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough (2018), directed by Lotte Wakeham.

SYMPATHY PAINS

Following a run at Pleasance Edinburgh in 2013, my play SYMPATHY PAINS about a man who thinks he is pregnant, ran for three weeks at Park Theatre in London. “So accurate ... beautifully acted” - MERVYN STUTTER Pick of the Fringe 2013” “A great show, smart and funny with wonderful performances” - PETER CAPALDI “Thoroughly entertaining” - CAMDEN REVIEW

JUBILATE!

This was a Times Critics’ Choice at Pleasance Edinburgh in 2012. One of my comedy monologues, ANNA, about a smug vicar’s wife who sees myriad flaws in others but none in herself, eventually grew into the 50-minute play JUBILATE!, in which I play the lead and also the four women who are drawn to her and whose lives she disrupts.

BARRY HUMPHRIES wrote after seeing JUBILATE!... “Thank you for the other evening. I am so glad I came and I was so impressed by your acting and your writing. I particularly liked the way you preserved a narrative line throughout the evening, first inviting the audience into a cosy lecture and then leading them gradually, and always with comedy, into a darker world. Congratulations.”

LOL

“This show is bliss”—LIBBY PURVES, as chief drama critic, The Times.

LOL looks at the subject of internet dating through the eyes of three contrasting characters: Lucinda eats men for breakfast—if they’re lucky, Sarah is ready for commitment, and even married Mags is curious. LOL premiered at Soho Theatre in 2009. It subsequently played at Jermyn Street Theatre and then at Pleasance Edinburgh for the 2011 Festival.

PERFECT

My first screenplay (previously titled FALLING) had a staged reading featuring Maureen Beattie, Ruthie Henshall, Owen Teale and Vincent Leigh.

HOLY FOOL

My stage play, HOLY FOOL, about Dmitri Shostakovich and co-written with Lea Sellers, had a rehearsed reading with Simon Russell Beale, for whom it was written, in the lead. It was directed by Philip Franks. We are in talks with Park Theatre about a next draft.

BETWEEN FRIENDS

“Funny, touching, beautifully observed - . a constantly surprising emotional roller-coaster that has you hooked from start to finish.” GYLES BRANDRETH

This domestic drama, which I co-wrote with Carolyn Pertwee, played at the OSO in Barnes in November 2008. Cast: Rosalind Adler (Laura), Catherine Shipton (Helen), Edmund Dehn (Paul).

JUST FOR YOU

My first full length play was a dark comedy about rape and incest, JUST FOR YOU, which Tim Pigott-Smith and Stephanie Jacob showcased at the Actors’ Centre. My mentor and script editor was Maria Aitken.
